Mack's lipstick troubles (but B.Brilliant Lip Gloss to the rescue)

Finding lipstick colours that suit me is something that can be quite difficult.   May will attest to the fact that we have spent many a shopping trip trying to find a lipstick that suits my dark complexion.  I don't even attempt to order a new, different lipstick online as I have been too disappointed in the past.  Ten years ago, I found the perfect lipstick for me whilst on a Paris shopping trip.  Chanel.  Adorably packaged, bronze/plum two-tone, creamy and shimmery, long-lasting and unfortunately limited edition.  I have been searching high and low for that slice of lipstick heaven ever since.

Of course, in the large city department stores I can find ranges specifically made for darker skin tones and wider ranges of the popular cosmetic brands which are suitable for a more diverse market. But sometimes even then I can struggle.   Sometimes colours can be too bold for a daytime look, or the product feels too matte on my lips.  Plus, I don't live in a big city.  It would just be nice to got out to a local high street store and just pick up something off the shelf that I am happy with.  However, the usual ranges in my local beauty high street stores have been quite limited in the past.
However, today, I'm a happy Mack.  I found a lip gloss completely by suprise in my local Superdrug store which is great!  Morello (#116) Rich Colour Lip Gloss in the B.Brilliant range.   At first glance, it looked scary dark purple in the tube which I thought was ideal for a bold party or Halloween look but not for the more natural look I am seeking for everyday wear at work (I'm thinking Mila Kunis not Morticia). I was about to walk on by but May convinced me to give it a try.  I was surprised when I tried the tester on the back of my hand.  I could achieve a pretty subtle shimmery plum if I applied it lightly and a dark, intense glossy aubergine with two to three coats.  Both were easy enough with the doe-foot applicator. I liked the two-for-one aspect and more importantly, I loved the pretty light plum look, so I bought it for a bargain £6.99.

Verdict after a few days' use:  a lovely daytime colour for me when I apply one light coat.  Feels great on - not thick, sticky, heavy or gloopy like some lip glosses.  As to be expected with lip glosses, I need to re-apply it often to maintain the colour. However, it will certainly do for now whilst I continue in my quest to find the replacement for my perfect Chanel lipstick of years ago.

It would be great to hear of any recommendations of lipstick or lip gloss for a darker skin tone, which I can review in future.

Over to May (our fair-skinned English rose). May says "This colour is gorgeous on you, Mack, and I like the fact that this is not a glittery gloss.  I think Poppy or Bambi from the same B.Brilliant range might have to go on my list."
