Mack reviews My Beauty Diary Sheet Masks (Plus win a box of My Beauty Diary Sheet Masks)

Pampering sessions have become an essential part of my weekly de-stress routine. Lock myself away from the kids for an hour, candles and music on, beauty products out...heaven! One of my favourite essential products for my pampering sessions are the My Beauty Diary sheet masks. Not only are these fun to use and relaxing, they work marvels for my skin! These sheet masks originate from Taiwan and I buy them from UK eBay sellers for about £1.70 to £2.30 each (simply search eBay for "My Beauty Diary" to find them).

The masks are sheets soaked in essence with cut outs for your eyes, nose and lips. It is a simple case of applying the sheet mask to your cleansed face, lying back and relaxing. You do not need to rinse your face afterwards and you can use any excess essence from inside the packaging on other parts of your body (I apply the left over essence to my neck and cleavage).  I like to use a nose pore strip before using the mask to remove blackheads. The sheet masks generally fit my face quite well but you can snip the cut out areas to make them fit better if need be.

I have combination/oily skin with a particularly oily T-zone area and I am very prone to breakouts when I use products which are overly moisturising. These are the My Beauty Diary sheet masks which work well for me:

Apple Polyphenol mask - a great mask for removing dead skin cells, clarifying and firming your skin and preventing enlarged pores. With its pleasant fresh apple smell, it is a lovely mask which makes my skin feel revived, cleansed, taut and smooth. I have never had any breakouts after using this mask. I pop the mask in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before my pampering session so it feels extra-cooling and fresh on my skin.

Strawberry Yoghurt Mask - a wonderful mask for controlling excessive sebum secretion, and clarifying, refining and soothing your skin. It smells so amazing that I want to eat it! When my skin is looking tired and/or oily, this mask is ideal. The oil controlling effects seem to last a good few days. My skin looks clearer and brighter after I use it and so far, touch wood, there have been no breakouts afterwards.  This is my favourite My Beauty Diary sheet mask.

Black Pearl Mask - The smell of this mask is adorable (like the Oil of Ulay smell). This mask hydrates and brightens your skin. My skin cannot tolerate masks that are too hydrating but this one is great when I find my skin has dry patches from over-exfoliation and use of salicylic acid based spot control products. My skin feels so soft and smooth afterwards but the real bonus was that I wake up the next day with extra bright, smooth and clear skin and blemishes did appear less prominent. I can only use this mask once in a while. If I use it too often, I do get breakouts unfortunately because I have oily skin anyway.

Masks I want to try...

Lemon Vitamin-C mask for its brightening effects and the Brocolli mask which is good for all skin types, especially tired-looking skin. I hope to review these soon.

Masks to avoid for oily/combintion/acne-prone skin (but could be good for dry skin)...

Arbutin Whitening mask - this was way too hydrating for me caused a nasty breakout of whiteheads. My skin was super greasy for days afterwards.

Japanese Cherry Blossom mask - this smelt so good (best smelling My Beauty Diary mask in my opinion) and felt very refreshing. But again it was way too hydrating and caused a huge breakout of spots the next day.  Mack was not a happy bunny.

A few recommendations based on the My Beauty Diary product descriptions...

Normal skin: Aloe Vera mask, Red Wine mask.
Dry skin: Imperial Bird's Nest mask, Bulgarian White Rose mask, Hyaluronic Acid mask.
Mature skin: Bird's Nest mask, Collagen Firming mask, Gingseng mask.
Sensitive skin: Luffa mask, Rice mask.

May - what's your favourite My Beauty Diary mask?

Definitely the apple one that you've mentioned above. It is so fresh and really feels like it is giving my skin a treat. I am jealous that the sheets fit you though. I always have to adapt mine a bit with a pair of scissors. It doesn't stop me using them though, they are worth it in my opinion. I'm intrigued by the broccoli mask that you want to try. I wonder what it smells like!
